Biographical / Historical

Sir Philip Sherlock was born in Jamaica on the 25th February 1902 and died on 4th December 2000. He was an educator who had a long career serving the University of the West Indies. Sir Philip was a member of the 1945 Irvine Commission which conceived the University College of the West Indies. He was responsible for the introduction of the UWI Extra Mural Department and became the first Director of this Department. He was the Principal of the St. Augustine... Campus, 1960-1963 and then became the Vice Chancellor of the University of the West Indies from 1963-1969.
