Winston Jules Mahabir collection
Scope and Contents
The collection comprises materials accumulated by Dr. Mahabir during his service as Minister of Health in Trinidad and Tobago, photographs of the Port of Spain General Hospital before major renovations, documents concerning the lease of land to the US for Military bases, the manuscripts for his book In and Out of Politics and several essays.

Dr. Winston Mahabir was a former politician and the first Minister of Health in Trinidad and Tobago during the tenure of Prime Minister Dr. Eric Williams.

Accruals
An accrual to the Winston Jules Mahabir Collection was received in March 2023. The materials include CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) radio broadcasts; a copy of The Holy Bible formerly owned by David Mahabir and signed by David, Winston, and Dennis Mahabir; and six scrapbooks of newspaper clippings documenting Winston Mahabir’s political career and involvement with the People's National Movement (PNM). The scrapbooks were compiled by his wife, Joan Graham Mahabir. All items in this accrual were generously donated by his daughter, Gilda Mahabir. These materials will be made available upon completion of processing and integration into the finding aid.
