Abstract

The collection consists of three hundred photographs, mainly of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service. Also included are photographs of prominent personalities in Trinidad and Tobago as well as photographs of foreign heads of state who visited Trinidad and Tobago.

Biographical / Historical

Francis Eustace Bernard was born on April 20th 1914 in Mason Hall, Tobago, Trinidad and Tobago. He joined the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service in 1934. Commissioner of Police, 1970-1974, he was the first Police Commissioner in Trinidad and Tobago to have risen through the ranks. Mr. Bernard was also an attorney-at-law, having been called to the Bar in 1970. He died in 2003.

These photographs were collected by Mr. Eustace Bernard in his capacity as Police Commissioner. Mr. Bernard subsequently donated this collection to The University of the West Indies in 2001.
