Abstract

The collection consists of conference papers, correspondence, lecture notes, pamphlets and reports. The major item is a Proposal for the Development of a Department of Social Work in Trinidad, authored by June Dolly Besson and Ann Wint of the Division of Social Work at Mona UWI, Mona. The Department of Social Work was established at The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, in 1990.

The Kamaluddin Mohammed papers contain the documents emanating from his political life from 1940s to 2003 and in particular his Ministerial appointments and service as Caricom Ambassador. There are smaller series of material which highlight his involvement with the Muslim community in Trinidad and Tobago, and some of his cultural activities.

Abstract

In 1783 the Cedula of Population was proclaimed by the King of Spain Jose de Galvez to encourage immigration to Trinidad from the other islands, particularly from the French islands. The edict had several articles including a grant of land for settling in the island. The documents are photocopies but provide the names of petitioners who requested lands, the location and state of these lands in Trinidad.
