Jamaica
Scope and Contents
The Tanzilo Popular Music Collection contains biographical information on many of the significant Reggae music performers of the 1970's through 1990's. These performers are predominantly Jamaican, however Reggae originating outside of Jamaica is also featured. Additionally, some information regarding other Caribbean music forms, such as, Mento, Calypso and Soca are also included. Photographs, concert flyers and official press releases from and about the various Reggae music performers and record companies offer a unique view of the reggae music industry during the decades covered.
This Collection is an interesting testament to Jamaican music as represented in North American media specifically. The majority of the clippings are from United States publications. Many of the clippings are derived from music themed magazines, such as 'New Musical Express' and 'Melody Makers'. There are special editorials or reviews from sources such as, 'Time Magazine' and 'The Gleaner'.
